WOW! Can you believe it's already March. Spring is just around the corner. Flowers blooming, clean air, new life what could be better than that? Which brings us to our new March challenge.

Mandy has created some of the most gorgeous spring papers. This month's challenge is

Spring Bouquet

We challenge you to create a card or project with a spring-like and fresh feel to the design. Add in flowers or floral papers, or use anything flowery...maybe a flower button or gem. Anything that depicts Spring Bouquets would be fabulous.

The Spring Bouquet paper collection is fresh and very spring-like. There are 36 papers in all - 6 colour buds, 9 colour Shabby Rose, 8 colour Polka Dots, 9 solid colours, and 4 additional accessory papers (spring bouquets and stripes). A must have for your spring collection.

The prize this month will be your choice of one Cupcake Cards & Crafts paper collection of your choice from the store. The winner will be announced the first week in April.

We asked Marie to guest design for us this month and she made not one, but two cards !

Marie says her new beginning is "to make more masculine cards. I have baskets of completed feminine cards but when I need a card for a man I have to make one. I hope to have a full 'man's basket' by the end of this year! Then I just have to keep it full"

January Challenge Winners

Hi Everyone, what a freezing cold snap we are having, I will be very happy when it's finished! Hope you are all cosy and warm where you are, we don't have snow but I hear lots of places do have snow, I think the seasons are a little out these days!!!

I have news today of January challenge winners, this time I have chosen more than one card to win a prize as there were SO many amazingly beautiful cards and over 250 entries to our challenge which for us, is some record! So because of this we have 4 winners this time and here they are ...

Tammy and Marie's cards are just all about the paper and I really LOVE that, the paper is the star of the show and it is just so amazing what you can achieve just with paper... it is what inspires me EVERY day to do what I do. So I may be a teensy bit biased to all-about-the-paper cards BUT, these are just brilliant I think.

Tammy's card is simplicity itself and so very effective. I love the little paper cuts stamped up, they just look like fabric squares dont they!

Marie's card is very clever using paper folding to make flower petals and leaves ... beautiful. I love that you could use this same technique with all different paper designs for a totally different look each time.

Mandy and Jan's cards are just cutesy fabulous! They feature such cute images, how can you not love them! And coloured beautifully too on both cards, quite a skill to look natural and I think both have acheived this superbly.

I love the matting and layering of the papers on Mandy's card and such clever colouring matching too, olive and lilac is so cute! I love the scalloped edge card, it is the similar to the bottom of the little lady's skirt. Pretty flower work too on Mandy's card I like this way of tucking the sentiment in.

And Jan's card is adorable! I love Jan's textures on this card, I love texture and I think it just gives a card the edge if it had lots of texture. There is quite a bit of detail on this card but it still looks clean and fresh, very hard to achieve I think (it is for me anyway!)

Whimsy Cupcakes {new}

Hi Everyone

Thanks for all the lovely comments about 'Zen' yesterday, it is really nice that you like it :)

I have a brand new cardmaking kit launched in the shop and wanted to let you know about it here too :O)

It is called 'Whimsy Cupcakes' and I am very fond of it indeed, it was inspired by a visit a while ago to Totnes (has anyone ever been?), there are some oh so sweet little shops there, one selling gorgeous cake slices and cupcakes. We bought a cake each and they were SO GOOD.. and a little shop selling just really gorgeous things - I could have stayed in there all day!

Anyway, after that, I just had to make something using cupcakes (cupcakes are often on my mind as they are just my most favourite thing anyway!) So off I went to my drawing pad and here is the completed kit!

The kit features cute whimsical cupcakes and a pretty colour palette of pinks and greens; the design papers include 'bubbles', 'ditty' and 'whimsy flora'. There are polka dot papers and colour solids to co-ordinate and 1 whimsy cupcake card topper and some sentiments all included.

I hope you like it and I would LOVE to see anything you make with it, thanks for popping in today and enjoy the rest of your week :)

I hope your weekend is going nicely. I have just popped in to say that there is a freebie paper collection for you today which you can download HERE!

It is called 'Zen' and I made it just before Christmas when I was in a 'purple' mood! There are 11 papers in all in purple/lilac/chocolate zen flowers and solid colour paper tones ... YUMMY! November Challenge Winner - Sweet Christmas

Hello Everyone,

Well what a massive response we had to last month's challenge, I think it was our best one yet! So a huge christmassy 'thank you' to everyone who joined in with our Challenge for November ' Sweet Christmas'.

And what a sweet lot of cards and 'not' cards we had! They were amazing!

Her card is very cute, a piggy trying to trim his tree!

Calypso said this ... "For the last 3 years my son has been in charge of filling the Christmas tree with all the bows and trimmings; however, this year he will not be alone, he will be joined by his little 2 year old brother"

I wanted to share a few cards with you all today as a little reminder of our challenge 'Sweet Christmas' this month!

I think the cards entered this month are amaaaaaaazing, well worth a little peek if you get time :)

I have had a lovely time making these; finally had a bit of time just to make some christmas cards which are my first ones this year, with the new Contemporary Christmas Papers ...

I did go a bit mad and made 22 cards!

I have had a go at these round cards, i love shaped cards SO much but can never get them right, but using my Big Shot and Circular Nesties in this way, I can make them ok.

(I'm addicted to cutting out with nesties lately. My Big Shot's press plates have had quite a battering, think I'm going to have to buy new ones?!).

Milk Carton Tutorial ...

This month our DT Pam made some very cute milk cartons and here we have a little treat for you, a tutorial from Pam to make your own!

Milk Carton Tutorial

'To make my milk carton box I used the template from “The Cutting Café” by Regina Easter. You can buy the template HERE. I used card stock which was about 160/180gsm. This gives the box some substance but it is not too thick that you can't fold it easily.

You can print the template directly onto your patterned paper but this means you have the lines on the inside of the box. I wanted my box to be “clean” so I printed the template and made notes of the measurements and folds and created my box this way.

First of all I cut my paper to size - 25.5cm x 19.6cm and then scored along all the dotted lines using my score board and cut along the black lines to create the base. (Please do buy the template from Regina, it only cost 99 cents which is just pennies. This is just to show you how I marked the template up.)

Once you have creased all your folds the box pretty much forms itself. I stuck the box together with some very strong tape. This is the fiddly bit but just take your time.

The triangle bits on the template need to be folded the opposite way which gives the "pouring spout". You can then add a flap over the top of the box and add a ribbon to keep this closed. All I did to do this was to punch two small holes on the lip and threaded the ribbon through. This holds all of the top together. You can then decorate as you wish.

They really are fun to make and so useful for little treats.

A Tutorial - 'Making Spiral Flowers'

Well today we have something fabulous to share with you.

Our lovely designer, Theresa has done a little tutorial about making spiral flowers which I am sure you will agree, she does SO WELL! I know I have such a hard time making these, I can't seem to get them quite right so any help is great!

So onto the tutorial:

Making Spiral Flowers

The Flowers

I begin with cutting the flowers from my new 'Art Philosophy' Cricut Cartridge (exclusive to 'Close To My Heart'). However if you do not have a Cricut the flower on the top row on the left can be cut with a plain pair of scissors. (To do this all you need is to cut the paper in a spiral manner). Or using 'Marianne Creatables' flower dies.

The photo on the left are the cuts I made and the photo on the right are the flowers that I created. I used the beautiful 'Charlotte' paper pack.

Step 1: I daubed the edge of the flower with vineyard berry to give the flower a more vintage look.
Step 2: I bent back the edges of the paper so that it will flare out. The larger the cut, the bigger the flare.
Step 3: I used a pair of tweezers to begin rolling the flower. When you roll you’ll roll so the pattern of the paper is the inside of the flower.
Step 4: Use your favorite glue to adhere it to the base of the flower. Hold down and allow the flower uncoil. I use my judgment on the coil based on how tight or loose I want the flower to look.

Step 1: For this flower I used the end of small paint brush to bend back each petal. There are two options with this particular flower. You can bend back each petal or when you’re done rolling the flower it can be smashed down to a beautiful flat flower vs. a larger 3D flower.
Step 2: I used the end of the paint brush to begin rolling - the smaller the tip the smaller the flower.
Step 3: You can also select to just hand roll the flower, it works just as well. The tightness or looseness of the flower depends on you.
Step 4: Again, use your favorite glue to adhere it to the base of the flower.

Placing Flowers on a Card

Sorry for no photos here…when I place the flower on the card I think about wanting it straight up or at some kind of diagonal.

I generally use Glue Dots to adhere them down. Depending on the angle of the flower this is where I place the adhesive and I tuck it in and hold it down. There is also another product I used called Liquid Glass and I can put a big dollop on the card and place all the flowers together and it adheres quickly.

Making flowers are simple. When I made my first set of flowers I hated them!! Then I practiced and tried different ways of rolling, cutting, and gluing. Then this month Art Philosophy came out and now I have 6 more flowers to play with.
I hope you’ll give making flowers a try.

You may be thinking I've gone a bit loony with that post title but, it's just the names of my latest cards :)

It's still raining in Torquay rrrrrrrrrrrrrubbish!!! So I'm still crafting in between housework. I am betting the sun will get his hat on in time for me starting work tomorrow which is always the piggin' way !

I am also trying to make a semi circular shaped card and I have a real battle on my hands, already tried a flower shaped card and that erm ... ended up firmly in the bin!

GRRRRR... shall I just give up on shaped cards?

Hi everyone

Just wanted to share this beautifully sunny card I came across on the lovely Mary J's blog recently.

Mary used our sweet ginghams papers and I think in yellow they look so pretty.

It is SO sunny and happy, it made me smile, I hope it does you too :O)

A Simple Card

I made this card the other day which is just very simple. I don't usually make many simplistic cards because I can never leave a card alone and usually end up piling other bits on!

But I stopped myself on this one and its just 6 bits!

2 paper panels, ribbon, flower, gem and my 'smile' stamp. The smile stamp is a bit wonky ... oh well!

So here it is.

So this brings me to this week's new product which is a zingy and fresh collection of 18 solid colour papers called 'This Year's Solids'.

Very zesty and juicy and in pinks, greens, yellows and oranges.

All brand new colours from Cupcakes ! They print really nicely and are so vibrant, fresssssssssssssh and smooth.

Hi Folks

Well I think our challenge this month has confused a little and I must apologise for that.

Many of you have asked what colours can be used and can shades of grey be used etc etc.

So to clear this little matter up, it is essentially Black & White *monochrome* but any shades of black, greys, silvers, creams are absolutely fine!

Hope thats a bit clearer, next month's challenge will be totally colourtastic I promise!!! Hey, its all fun!!!

Welcome to our 1st Challenge of the year which is to create a project with the theme of 'Bright Summery Day' to shake off the Winter Blues so it can be bright papers, summer images or anything that reminds you of the lovely summer days!

You may have seen over on the blog that we have some new products out now and our new challenge is based on one of the paper collections ... so the Design team have used our brand new paper collection called 'Bright Summery Day' for their projects.
